I really cannot get my mind around the decision making process that exists within our governments. Particularly the City of Duncan council.
I congratulate Sharon Jackson on her letter. Well said Sharon. It appears the decision is; “How can we spend money?” then “How can we make the worst possible decision?”
I’ve already written about the wasted dollars beside the highway in front of our condo complex. One million dollars down the drain. The new park downtown. Another $1 million wasted. Now these bike lanes on Queens and Coronation. Not only screwing up traffic with more one way streets but again waste, waste, waste of millions of dollars.
The city of Duncan’s streets are almost as bad as Victoria. We travelled to Victoria recently out of necessity and were appalled at the road conditions, particularly Douglas Street. Kinda reminded us of the old corduroy roads built a century ago. In fact I think Victoria is the template for Duncan’s decisions. Absolutely atrocious road conditions both in Victoria and Duncan.
Spending money on bike lanes to satisfy no more than 20 per cent of the population while the majority of citizens go wanting. The waste begins in Ottawa, filters down to Victoria and is well learned by the CVRD and the municipalities. Time for some change of thinking at the political levels and change of politicians is the way to do it.
