Letter: Council ruining city with street projects

Those trees were planted not that long ago
letters

I assume that the complete moron who designed the Brae Road/Queen Street area of Duncan is an able bodied man. Neither he nor our useless council ever thought to look at this so called development through the lens of the disabled.

There is no access from the street to the houses or businesses without stepping over that gigantic curb and walking across the grass, where you will probably trip over a sprinkler head. If you have a passenger in your car, you have to almost park in the middle of the street. To return to your car and open the door, you have to wait until all oncoming traffic has passed because the road is now so narrow. God help those who use a walker. You are doomed.

Recently, before the grass grew in, a woman who stepped over the curb did not realize the dirt was lower than the road and heavily fell, just missing the sprinkler by inches. The trees they have chosen will spread 18 feet wide when mature, by the way. Not such a great choice. And the width of the bike lane is excessive for the hundreds of bikers who refuse to come to Duncan in case their bikes disappear.

And now they are tearing up the trees on Coronation. Duncan City council, are you mad? Those trees were planted not that long ago. The next election cannot come soon enough. Eight years and they have almost destroyed what was once a wonderful little city. Sometimes, I despair.
