Devastation caused recently by the 9.0 earthquake and killer tsunami in Japan has pulled at the heartstrings of people at Parkside Art Gallery - enough to make them want to help.

In aid of the earthquake victims, a potluck buffet dinner and auction fundraiser has been organized to take place on April 9 in the Valley Room behind the 100 Mile Lodge. All money raised will go to the Red Cross and earmarked for Japan.

Besides dinner and an auction, the evening will include live entertainment by local singer Ingrid Mapson and origami paper crane making with Gordon Hoglund.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and admission is by contributing a potluck food item for the buffet. Viewing of auction items and entertainment start the event, and at 5 p.m., the live and silent auctions begin.

Claudia Ring of Parkside says news of the earthquake quickly had many people involved with Parkside, thinking of ways to help.

"There is so much suffering and people can see the Japanese people are very patient with what is happening. We're sure they will make the best use of our donations."

She adds Parkside's goal is to raise $24,000, which is enough to pay for a water purification system.

Parkside is welcoming donations of fine art and other quality items for the auction and they can be dropped off at Parkside or brought directly to the auction.
