Easter is right around the corner, and numerous events are being held in the South Cariboo.
On April 12, What's Hoppening will be returning to the 100 Mile Community Hall for the third year, which is an Easter community festival set to take place at the 100 Mile Community Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Basically for our youth, children and families to come and have a good time at the community hall - seeing the Easter Bunny, all kinds of activities and just having a real fun day," said Donna Barnett, one of the main organizers of the What's Hoppening event. In addition to the Easter bunny, there will be a free hot dog and a drink for anyone up to 14 years old.
"The only thing we ask is if adults for hot dogs and drinks - if they give us a donation. If they can't afford to give us a donation, they don't have to," Barnett said, noting that events like What's Hoppening cost money.
Additionally, there will be numerous other activities, such as games, as well as a chance to win prizes if you are dressed in the best Easter outfit.
"We have about 30-some-odd games for kids to play. We will have the fire department there, the RCMP will be there and the paramedics will be there," Barnett said, adding the Easter Bunny will also be there. "We've got a game that we play with doughnuts. We've got games with eggs. We've got painting - throw the sack, fishing ponds - everything you could possibly think of."
Barnett said it is just "wonderful" to see many young children and families having a great afternoon.
eXp Realty also will be hosting another Easter event on April 18, a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt. According to eXp realtors Jenni Guimond and Clee Grahn, the Easter Egg Hunt will consist of them hiding 13 Easter eggs throughout the community of 100 Mile House - one of which is a golden egg. Each Easter egg can be turned in at eXp Realty for a prize, though a family can only turn in one egg, not multiple.
"We're still working out all our prizes - and it's one prize per family," said Guimond. It should be noted that last year, the egg hunt went very quickly.
"We put out our clues at around 9 a.m. and it was done by 10:30 a.m. All prizes were found and collected."
The clues in question are supposed to help lead participants to the locations of the easter eggs. Both Guimond and Grahn are excited about the event.
"We had a great turnout last year, and hope for the same again this year," Guimond said. "It was really super fun."
