The Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability (ALACD) will be hosting a one-day workshop on April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Valley Room behind the Lodge.

The workshop, entitled Moving to Inclusion, is open to residents and professionals. It will offer information and guidance to those who may be involved with the disabled community any way, including recreation, workplace environments and other lifestyle modifications.

"I would like to see coaches of any and all sports attend," says 100 Mile hostess Lori Fry.

"Just making one adjustment, one simple modification of venue, equipment or tools, can make a difference to a participating disabled person."

Fry notes ALACD is a national network that was created to motivate and assist Canadians with a disability to become more physically active. While an active lifestyle is important for all Canadians, it is particularly important for those with a disability, she adds.

"This workshop is to raise awareness of abilities not disabilities."

The workshop will include group activities; a video; information on how certain equipment can be used so disabled people can participate in sports programs; and the nine-step approach that can be used to simplify inclusion.

Seating is limited, so for more information or to register, contact Fry at 250-395-2452 or e-mail bcboardmember@ccbnational.net.
