The Relay for Life usually held in 100 Mile mid- to late-June is an event that raises awareness of cancer and funds for research and prevention.
“The event last year was a mini festival,” says Ed Millman, Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) revenue development co-ordinator.
“It was family oriented. There was entertainment, food and children’s activities.”
For the past 10 years, Relay for Life has been held in Centennial Park, and is usually a day-long event.
“What a beautiful setting, [Centennial Park] beautiful lush lawns, with the stream running through, and there was great community support,” says Millman.
Prior to the relay, the team members get donations on line or in person. Registering or volunteering has never been easier when you go online, he adds.
“There are links if you go online to make your own web page; you can edit your own text and put in your photo.
“Donations increase when given online. It is very secure and a receipt is given immediately.”
Millman notes that two years ago, the CCS saved $80,000 in postage because of the online donations.
The 2011 early bird registration fee, which is available now until the end of January, is $10.
From February until 30 days before the event, it is $20, and within 30 days of the event, it is $25.
“We love to have the early birds. It gives us a better gauge on the areas event.”
Relay for Life is asking folks in the South Cariboo to become a team captain and recruit family members, friends and co-workers to participate in this event.
