The 100 Mile House Mural Society recently received some much appreciated support from the 100 Mile House Lions Club in the form of a $1,000 cheque.

Lion Ray Carlson made the presentation on behalf of the club, noting a recent informative presentation made by Ruth Peterson of the mural society to the Lions Club compelled the membership to make the donation.

"The murals are wonderful. They beautify the town, preserve our history and honour our pioneers. The mural society is passionate about what they do," he says.

Close to $50,000 has been invested to date in the nine murals that are spread throughout 100 Mile, with each costing from between $3,000 and $15,000, says Peterson.

She adds very little funding comes by way of government grants and their main supporters are corporations, with a small amount also coming from private citizens. The Lone Butte Historical Society has also raised money for the two installations on the walls at the South Cariboo Theatre.

Along with funding murals, the society is also raising money to create descriptive plaques for the murals. The cost for each is $750 and only three have been installed to date and another two are being made.

The mural society currently has 20 members and the cost of an annual membership is $5. For more information about joining or supporting the organization, contact Peterson at 250-395-4881 during the evening, or 250-395-2292 during working hours.
