Right on the heels of Deka’s Ice-Fishing derby comes the Lions Snowarama Ice Fishing Derby at West Sheridan, on Feb. 20.
Tickets cost $5 and include pro-drilled holes to which fishers are driven. Purchased refreshments are also brought to your hole.
Prizes include five cash amounts for the heaviest rainbow hauled in. In addition, every fish caught wins a prize and there are still a lot of prizes left over for the many draw prizes.
You can fish from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and, naturally, your ticket is entered in the draw even if you don’t fish.
All proceeds of this event go to Snowarama for the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, and specifically benefit the Lions’ three Easter Seal Houses around the province.
Darts and poker
Interlakes Comm-unity Association is most grateful that RONA Interlakes and B&B Tree Topping have both stopped up to the plate to donate two further dart board sets, after the first two were donated by Shelley Kotowick of RE/MAX and Rush Enterprises.
Dart games happen at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Interlakes Hall. All donated equipment will carry a plaque recognizing its donor.
In addition, poker nights will arrive at the hall, starting Feb. 11. No alcohol is permitted
Fair booklet
Organization of this year’s 54th Bridge Lake Fair on Aug. 20-21 is underway.
The fair booklet will go on the streets in May and advertising is currently being sold: business
card size costs $15; quarter page $25;
half page $50; and whole page $90.
Previous advertisers will be contacted within the next few weeks, and anyone new who wishes to advertise should call this writer as soon as possible as space sells out very fast.
Fundraising lunch
The Cariboo Presbyterian Church’s youth groups, Kids’ Space and Teen
Space, enjoyed a wonderful fundraising luncheon at Interlakes Hall on Jan. 23.
With four varieties of soup, cheese, homemade buns and apple crisp, the youth, who made
and served the meal, were delighted to serve more than 80 people and raise $1,120 to help the church keep its very popular programs running.
Fish branding
Debi Young reports that the Fishing Highway Tourist Association’s (FHTA) opening meeting Jan. 24 saw a great turnout with at least 60 business owners, more than half of whom signed up as new members.
The meeting welcomed a “bunch of eager new members” and unveiled its web site: fishinghighway24.com or fishinghighway24.ca
Members comprise business owners
along the Highway 24 corridor from
Lone Butte to Little Fort, south to Bonaparte Lake,
and north to both Horse and Hathaway lakes.
FHTA is entering into discussion with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to get road signage changed to read “Fishing Highway.”
Interested parties may sign up online, and may then also link their own websites to that of FHTA.
