The annual Ryan Larson Memorial Snow Ball Tournament saw a smaller entry than usual, mostly because last year's tournament was cancelled due to lack of snow.
That certainly wasn't the case this year, but as co-ordinator Tim Ruscheinsky put it, "People tend to forget if you miss a year."
Fittingly, first place went to Ryan's Squad captained by Barry Larson, the oldest of Ryan's three brothers. The Horny Devils from Kamloops placed second, while Ruscheinsky's "Local Yokels " came third.
Showcase artist
Bridge Lake librarian Brenda Tillyer has announced April's guest artist in the library's Community Showcase is Sulphurous Lake's Bryan Austerberry.
A trained artist specializing in pencil and graphite pencil drawings, Bryan worked mainly as a graphic artist and moved from Ontario to British Columbia in 1972. He had had his own advertising agency in Chilliwack and was out of drawing for a bit, but started again when he retired.
"Graphite pencil is soft like charcoal but in pencil form and is a little richer looking than pencil. I often add a touch of colour; I've just finished wolves and they have yellow eyes.
“If something grabs me, I do it. Right now, I am working on elephants. I have several fairy princesses … and then little cowboys because people bought the princesses for girls' rooms and wanted something for their boys."
Bryan has sold many originals, including one at Sun Peaks, to a visitor from Hong Kong. His display will comprise two 14- by 17-inch originals, and, perhaps nine 11- by 14-inch prints.
Public hearings
The Cariboo Regional District has scheduled three public hearings at Interlakes Hall starting at 7 p.m. on April 6.
One is for Bibeault, Ray and Kolovos who wish to reconfigure an existing two lots into three lots of six or seven acres, at Gauthier and Cotterpin, Deka.
One is for Lac des Roches Resort, to convert 25 acres of its property from C2 commercial to RR1 residential.
The third is for Debarros and Smith of 7198 Grossett Rd. who wish to create one five-acre lot with a remainder of 70 acres.
Trophy donation
Bridge Lake Fair Association is delighted to announce the 2011 Fair will provide the inaugural preserving trophy.
Frequent winners at the fair, the Kisby family is generously donating a perpetual trophy and annual keeper plaques for the Aunt Norma Memorial High-Point Preserving award.
Many Interlakers will know this is in the honour of Norma Vaughan, (sister to Russell Ross) who passed away in the early 2000s, but who was both a "great canner and great gardener."
