A Penticton swimmer is one of six Canadian women set to don the red and white Maple Leaf at an upcoming event in Germany.

Ashley McMillan has been named to Team Canada at the 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games, set to take place from July 16 to 27.

McMillan, a graduate of Penticton Secondary School, is currently a student-athlete at the University of Southern California.

The local swimmer joins Team Canada after finishing as a finalist in the 200-metre individual medley event at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships.

McMillan is the only B.C. swimmer named to compete for Canada at the World University Games.

Joining McMillan on Team Canada next month are Julie Brousseau, Patrick Hussey, and Emma O’Croinin, who all competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Swimming at the event will take place in Berlin from July 17 to 23. The Canadian men's and women's teams each have six athletes.

The country is making its return to the FISU Summer World University Games after missing the biennial event in 2023.
