The Watch Lake-Green Lake Community Association (WLGLCA) is pleased to announce that the Gymkhana will be held on Saturday, July 8. It is the longest-running gymkhana in British Columbia.

The gates open at 10 a.m. and the events start at noon. Everyone is welcome, and admission is $2 (children six and under are free).

This is a horse and rider sporting event that includes barrel racing, keyhole, musical tires, and baton racing. The gymkhana will be held at the grounds just west of the Little Horse Lodge.

There will be a concession serving mouth-watering hamburgers and hotdogs, pop, coffee, chocolate bars, chips, etc. There is also a refreshment garden to quench the adults’ thirst.

The gymkhana is a lot of fun for both competitors and the public, so bring a good hat, sunscreen, and your camera. We hope to see you all there.

Fishing Derby

The 2023 Watch Lake Green Lake fishing derby was a wonderful event where 139 contestants fished for two days on Watch Lake and Green Lake. Everyone enjoyed great food and refreshments under sunny skies.

The first prize of $500 went to Robert Johnson with a six-pound, one-ounce rainbow trout from Green Lake. The second prize of $200 went to Otto Edle with a six-pound, ¼-ounce rainbow trout, also from Green Lake. Sara Walter caught the biggest fish from Watch Lake, at two pounds, 12¼ ounces.

Congratulations to the fishers and many, many thanks to all those fabulous businesses that contribute to the event and the dozens of volunteers for their huge effort in making the return of the Fishing Derby a huge success.
