On Sunday, May 25th, the Highland 4-H Club had Alex Mutch from the Invasive Species Council of BC come and teach the members about invasive species.

After a lesson about local invasive species, the club then did a walk around the marsh in 100 Mile pulling weeds. There were LOTS of thistles to pull. Once the weeds were pulled, we bagged them, then once the bag was full, we bagged them in a black garbage bag so they would die off. Making them safe to throw away, the club was able to pull about three bags worth of weeds, it was a great afternoon of learning.

Alex started his invasive species career when he was 21, he started in the invasive fish sector. He went to school at Grant McEwan University in Edmonton to learn about invasive species. He’s been in the invasive plant sector for about five years now.
