There were two riding clinics at the 70 Mile Arena in May.
The first one was provided by Kristen Mozel, who did the Ranch Riding Clinic on May 10-11.
Eleven riders enjoyed the weekend with instructions for the upcoming Ranch Riding shows throughout British Columbia and Alberta, 70 Mile House Arena lead Lori Spencer said.
“Along with basic horsemanship skills, we learned how to successfully negotiate the Trail Obstacles and also to ride the Ranch Patterns," Spencer said. “Kristen taught us what the judges are looking for in the various Ranch Show classes.”
The second clinic was put on by Xtreme Cowboy Challenge champion Trevor Mertes.
Spencer said this one-of-a-kind clinic was great for horsemanship skills and for building confidence when approaching and riding over and through any manner of obstacles.
“Trevor brought an assortment of obstacles that may show up at an Xtreme Cowboy Challenge event, including skinny bridges, water boxes, tipping bridges, huge tires and a carousel.”
Spencer noted that both clinics brought in local riders and riders from throughout BC.
“Everyone rode very well and increased their skill and confidence in riding the obstacles!”
