The Fishing Highway 24 Tourist Association’s (FH24) Feb.16 Outhouse Races were a wild success! For those that missed the results, they are:
Woman’s 1st Wettstone Guest Ranch.
Woman’s 2nd Fire in the Hole.
Men’s 1st Rona “Younguns”.
Men’s 2nd T Bowl.
Best of show 1st Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department’s “Fire in the Hole”.
Best of show 2nd Emergency Support Services, 100 Mile.
Much appreciation goes to FH24; the Iron Horse for hosting and their amazing buffet; the 2025 Grad Class for chilli and treats; the many volunteers, and the hundreds who attended, including the DINOSAUR!
It took some shattering lifestyle changes for Karen Schuurman to break through as a dinosaur! No-one knew in advance, not even those friends she was meeting there.
Some four years ago, health restrictions caused her to leave her much-loved employment handling recreation at Fischer Place/Mill Site where she delighted in providing and provoking smiles. Then came a marriage break-up and at much the same time, an empty nest, all of which caused Karen to find “herself.” She decided that her new purpose was to "encourage, enlighten and inspire people to live their best life,” and added, “With all the darkness and struggles people are facing right now, I think we all need to find some joy. Just like my previous job, if I can bring a smile to someone's face, make someone feel heard or cared for, then my self-proclaimed purpose in life is being fulfilled.”
Karen surely provided plenty of smiles on Feb. 16, and “loved the little kids who gave the dinosaur waves or high fives as they went by!” Thank you, Karen, for the joy you imparted!
Interlakes Horse Club (IHC)
The IHC is introducing an exciting new free “skills” programme for its young riding members aged five to 18; it is also available to 100 Mile & District Outriders members. An array of qualified and skilled equine professionals will happily share their developed skills with both clubs’ youth. A total of 10 classes (five at each club) will run between May 15 and Sept. 16 and are clearly listed on IHC’s Facebook page. Some specific requisites for participation include helmets, waivers, and parental attendance mandatory. If youth wish to attend all ten classes, they must be members of both IHC and 100 Mile Outriders’ clubs.
Questions may be directed to Erica Lemak, Youth Director of Education & Development for both clubs, either via Facebook PM or phone at 250-318-9290.
