Started by the Fishing Highway 24 Tourist Association, the Lake Keeper project now has volunteer lakekeepers monitoring the health of many of our lakes!

In October of 2024, they took the in-person workshop at Fawn Lake Resort; and, on April 13,  followed that up with a refresher course before getting started on this season’s water sampling.

Mountain Spruce Community Centre looking for new volunteers

With much gratitude for their many years of service handling the Society’s recycling, the Mountain Spruce Community Centre (MCCC) has been advised that Greg & Joanne Wray are retiring. Hence, MSCC is looking for six new volunteers to offer two hours twice a month to help current volunteers with various recycling requirements. Specific days/duties can be obtained from MSCC secretary Shannon.

They also welcome those who wish to volunteer at an event. Interested parties should e-mail their name, phone number and e-mail address to mtnspruce@gmail.com, who will then contact them when needing help.

Memberships ($5 pa) are due and can be paid by cash at any event; by cheque to MSCC Society; or by e-transfer to mtnspruce@gmail.com with your name and address in the comments section. New members should also fill out a membership form.

Residents attending the hall are reminded to fill out the sign-in sheet in the foyer, where there is also a jar for the $2 drop-in fee.

Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department hosts Open House

The Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department's (IVFD) annual Open House is this Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Interlakes Community Centre. Drop in to meet personnel from all Emergency Services, in addition to CRD Area L director Eric deVries. Meet your firefighters, tour an engine, try on fire gear and work a hose! Hotdogs by donation, and a 50/50 draw. Bring your bottles for their bottle drive!

Interlakes Horse Club preparing for busy year

The Interlakes Horse Club (IHC) is packing a lot of fun into this year’s programme.

First, on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., it’s their inaugural Poker Ride at Bridge Lake. Ride the loop, collect your hand and maybe win a prize. Prizes to two places for 19 years and under; and for those over 19; and worst hand. The cost is $25 per hand, and you may play multiple hands.

Each IHC member is encouraged to bring a non-member to join the fun. To park, look for the BLUE IHC EVENT sign. Go to https://maps.app.goo.gl/vAs93MThM3K6Af4F6?g_st=ifm to view the route and sign up.

Then, from June 1 through September 10, IHC invites members to join the inaugural Interlakes “100 Hours in 100 Days” Recreational Ride virtual event! Members may participate with horses, mules or donkeys of any age or discipline. Accumulate hours via mounted activities, in-harness and in-hand or liberty work, lunging, schooling, teaching to load, grooming, bathing and even hand-walking!

This challenge is primarily for recreational riders and horses in training and, since shows have other awards, a maximum of 25 hours of the 100 can be counted at shows. Details of the five special awards, and how to submit your monthly hours can be found on IHC’s Facebook page post dated April 9. All participants who complete their Challenge will receive a printable certificate. The $40 fee must be received by midnight on May 25; late entries are $50.

Note that each animal/person pair needs a separate entry. Interested members should contact IHC Director of Recreational Ride programme, Roxanne Salinas at ihc100hourschallenge@gmail.com.

Greetings

Birthday bubbly goes to Shelly Durand, Doreen Wishart, Carel Durand and Mel Grahn.
