The Fifth Annual Ice Racing event on Green Lake on Feb. 15-16 was a great success.
People from all over brought their machines to race on the Green Lake ice. Some of them raced against another vehicle and driver, while others raced against the clock.
All of the racing was determined by the drivers.
However, some drivers just had fun driving on the ice.
One part-time property owner was so excited watching the vehicles going around on the ice, that she said she was going to buy a car to enjoy riding out on the ice with her son next year.
A lot of people brought their chairs and warm clothes and chatted with friends and neighbours while sitting by the campfire, while their leashed dogs enjoyed being outside with their owners, and children raced around and had fun in the snow and out on the ice.
Inaugural 70 Mile House Ice Fishing Derby successful
Amy Williams did a great job of organizing the 70 Mile House Ice Fishing Derby.
However, she said, “it wouldn't have happened if it wasn’t for Aaron Burwell, my volunteers: Gord and Kristine Nielson, Gord and Cindy Dillon, Martin and April Huber and Sue Spooner, and of course the staff at Eddy’s Bar and Grill.”
There were 75 entries for the derby, but only two fish were weighed in.
Dan Grant got a one-pound 15-ounce Rainbow trout. Brad Wilson caught a one-pound eight-ounce Rainbow.
There were cash prizes for the biggest fish.
However, Williams said there were other prizes to hand out.
“We had a very large assortment of prizes, all of them to do with ice fishing, and all made possible by Aaron.”
Williams said she would “love to plan [the derby] for next year!”
