To the editor:
I am responding to Dave Hickey's letter (headlined Not allowing a smart meter in his home on page A9, Oct. 12 Free Press) about not letting a smart meter be mounted on his house.
I followed his advice and Googled "are smart meters safe" and found Dr. Magda Havas who seems to spend most of her time spreading exaggerated scare stories about the horrors of radio waves and compact fluorescent light bulbs.
I could not find any peer reviewed scientific research to support her claims. But, I did Google the "BC Centre for Disease Control- Health and your environment: Smart Meters." The information provided is consistent with that given by BC Hydro.
I think we need less conspiracy theorizing without any evidence to back it up and perhaps give our Crown corporation BC Hydro the benefit of the doubt.
