Two wildfires were discovered north of Mahood Lake on Monday, July 22.

Both wildfires C41350 and C41391 are believed to have been ignited by dry lightning and are listed as out of control. The B.C. Wildfire Service is responding to both blazes.

The larger of the two wildfires is C41350 four kilometres northwest of Pendelton Lake. It is currently estimated to be about 70 hectares in size as of the last update. The fire was first discovered early Monday morning. Currently, a wildfire crew, wildfire aviation assets and heavy equipment are on the scene to contain the fire.

Fire C41391, meanwhile, was discovered around noon and is currently listed at 60 hectares. It is located 3.7 kilometres east of Hidden Lake. An initial attack crew has been dispatched to limit the spread of the fire.

These wildfires come as the Cariboo Fire Centre focuses on responding to a wildfire currently burning within Williams Lake's city limits. There are currently 30 wildfires burning across the Cariboo Fire Centre, 20 of which are currently listed as out of control.

More to come.
