8 YEARS AGO (2016): The District of 100 Mile House council passed a resolution to rename Airport Road to Wrangler Way at a council meeting that was held on July 12. Council had decided to change the name to commemorate the 100 Mile House Wrangler's "outstanding run in the 2015/16 season." Mitch Campsall, then mayor of 100 Mile House, stated that the name change worked because "when people drive down that road and see the South Cariboo Rec Centre they think of the Wranglers. Also, there is the rodeo grounds right beside it and wrangler is another word for cowboy, so it works for both reasons." Residents would have to be asked if they were in favour of the name change, and council also had to make sure there was not another Wrangler Way in the Cariboo area.
11 YEARS AGO (2013): A private walk-in clinic that was operating at Cariboo Mall shut down without prior notification. The clinic, which was named Medical Walk-In Clinic, was closed in late June after then-owners Dr. Koen Geerts and Dr. Leila Lopper decided to go to Europe, with the clinic being scheduled to reopen on September 3. Deb Runge, then acute services manager of the 100 Mile District General Hospital, stated that Interior Health had no authority over private clinic schedules or hours - but also said that they did help manage healthcare needs across the community. Don Timleck, who was a patient there, said he did not receive any letter or warning about the shutdown.
15 YEARS AGO (2009): Then Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod delivered a cheque for $191,500 to the District of 100 Mile House, which was set to be used to "upgrade trails in the area to be used by hikers and bikers in the summer months and snowmobilers in the winter." McLeod stated the presentation ceremony had taken place on July 9, and that the project would "provide social, recreation and, most importantly, real business opportunities in many communities in the Cariboo." Then Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett credited the volunteers who she stated were the heart and soul of the outdoor activities in the Cariboo-Chilcotin.
22 YEARS AGO (2002): The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) received four Request For Proposals (RFP) on June 27 towards the construction of the South Cariboo Rec Centre that was going to be built in 100 Mile House. Four proposals had been submitted, with three being outside of Williams Lake. The CRD called for RFPs after seven tenders on the facility had been rejected as they would have resulted in the project going above its "firm $4.5 million budget." The contractor who would be awarded with working with then-architect Bernard Perreten. In addition, the contract's price tag had risen from $3.4 million to $3.8 million thanks to an infrastructure grant.
