The Regional District of Nanaimo has updated its building inspection fees.
The RDN board adopted the Building Regulations Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw No. 1595.01, 2025. The updated bylaw comes into effect on May 15.
Building Inspection Service fees have not been updated or adjusted in 14 years, requiring review and adjustments to ensure cost recovery and to support the efficient processing of building applications. The amended bylaw includes increases to some existing fees and the addition of new fees.
Some of the key changes include fee increase for owner-built permit and conditional certificate of occupancy renewal from $100 to $200, demolition fee for simple and complex building structure ($150 and $250, respectively), rescind a stop work order fee from $150 to $500 and archive record requests fee go up to $100 from $40. For highlights of the key changes to the fees, view the information bulletin at rdn.bc.ca/information-bulletin.
In addition to fee changes, the RDN is rolling out new documents to help applicants through the building inspection process. This includes updated, comprehensive application checklists and inspection guides to make the application process more streamlined and clearer.
