The libraries in Quesnel and 100 Mile House are closed Wednesday, May 15 as striking Cariboo Regional District staff hit the picket line outside the building.
Libraries in the Cariboo and Chilcotin were set to tentatively return to service beginning on May 14th, with modifications to most library services due to the ongoing labour dispute with BCGEU.
The Williams Lake Regional Library remains open, with staff picketing the CRD building’s main entrance, not the library entrance.
All CRD libraries were set to resume normal operations during regular operating hours.
CRD communications manager Gerald Pinchbeck confirmed Wednesday rural libraries remain open for curbside pickup only at this time.
“We aren’t aware of any picketing at these locations,” he told Black Press.
“The best things residents can do, knowing that picketing may start and or stop with out any notice, is to call ahead to their branch and confirm they are open before attending. We will also provide updates on our library website, www.cln.ca, with any closures as they occur.”
BCGEU members have been on strike since Monday, May 13 after rejecting a final offer on Friday of an 11 per cent increase over three years.
