Saanich PD is reminding drivers to find alternative ways home if they have consumed anything that impairs their ability to drive.

Saanich police removed 229 impaired drivers from the district’s roads in the first half of 2025, down from 320 during the same period in 2024.

Of those stopped between Jan. 1 and June 30, nearly half – 114 drivers – received 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions after either failing a roadside breath test or refusing to provide a sample.

In total, police issued 182 roadside bans ranging from three to 90 days, each resulting in a vehicle impoundment of between three and 30 days.

Saanich police said 134 of the drivers were stopped between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., while another 44 received 24-hour suspensions and 12 were found to be impaired by drugs.

A total of nine of the drivers who received 90-day bans held Class 7 licences, six had no valid licence, and one was a commercial driver operating a tractor-trailer.

The department said enforcement will continue through the summer, with impaired driving CounterAttack roadblocks planned across the municipality.
