The District of 100 Mile House has four candidates to replace former councillor Ralph Fossum.
The four candidates who have put their names forward for the by-election are Marty Norgren, Lori Fry, Cameron McSorley and Dave Wishnowski. Sheena Elias, the chief election officer for the district, said there are no plans currently for the district to run any kind of debate between the candidates. Elias notes that the fact that this many candidates are running for one by-election seat “pleases” the District.
“We had seven candidates run for the four available Council seats in the 2022 general election, so four candidates for one seat in the by-election is quite good,” Elias said.
General voting will take place on June 22, with advanced voting day taking place on June 12, both taking place between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The polls will be located at the District Council Chambers located at 385 Birch Avenue.

Elias is encouraging anyone who qualifies to vote to make their voice heard noting that the 2022 general election had a 26.5 per cent voter turnout.
“It would be wonderful to see high community engagement with this by-election,” stated Elias. “We will be placing ads and posting on our social media to make sure residents are aware the election is happening.”
