The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) provided a healthcare requirement update at their recent board meeting.

Melissa Lapointe and Beth Veenkamp from the City of Williams Lake attended the meeting virtually to present the update regarding recruitment and retention for healthcare in the South and Central Cariboo. They brought forward highlights of the Healthcare Landing and Retention program’s accomplishments over the past year.

The program is operated by the city’s Economic Development department and is funded by the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District (CCRHD). Over the past 12 months, it has seen significantly more growth, activity and reach, seeing an average of 20 healthcare professionals supported each month.

Lapointe and Veenkamp also discussed future improvements that could be added to the program, such as more consistent support for students and allied health professionals, maintaining a consistent presence in 100 Mile House, more social events and developing a welcome package.

The program was inspired by a similar model that was launched in Quesnel in 2015 which was highly successful.
