City of Parksville celebrates 80th birthday

City was incorporated on June 19, 1945

The City of Parksville turned 80 years old on June 19 and the city celebrated with a party and birthday cake.

The Atrium of the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre was full of residents who turned out to mark to occasion, enjoy some refreshments, check out historical displays and sing 'Happy Birthday'.

Several former mayors and MLA for Ladysmith-Oceanside, Stephanie Higginson were on hand to wish the city a happy birthday.

The city originally planned to celebrate the 75th birthday in June 2020, but the party was postponed due to the pandemic.

"It's been a busy time since then, but we thought 'we've still got to celebrate, so let's look forward and do this on the 80th birthday'," said Mayor Doug O'Brien. "And that's why we're here today. So my thanks to all of our staff who have put this together to recognize truly a milestone for the City of Parksville."

The city was incorporated on June 19, 1945.
