ORIGINAL Oct. 2:
An area of Vernon is under a boil water notice due to construction.
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health, has issued the precautionary notice for customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water in the areas near water main work along 32nd avenue and Alexis Park Drive, 30th Avenue between 37th Street and 39A street, and 38th Street between 2708 38th Street to 32nd Avenue.
The notice is due to ongoing construction and upgrading of the water main in this area. Due to the nature of the work, residents in the affected area may occasionally experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water or air in the water. The pipes in the area are being replaced due to their age and condition and are vulnerable to breaks, which the RDNO said customers in the area have already experienced.
Until the construction is completed, the water can change unexpectedly, according to the RDNO which announced the boil water notice Wednesday morning, Oct. 2.
Affected customers should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing any food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.
If residents notice discolouration of the water or air in the water, they are advised to run a cold tap until the water has cleared. An outdoor tap is preferred.
Questions can be directed to the RDNO utilities department at 250-550-3700.
