The Nanaimo Ballroom Dance Society has teamed up with DanceSport B.C. to present a prestigious national dance competition this weekend.
The Canadian Closed Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, at the Beban Park Social Centre.
Spectators can see couples of all ages and ability from across the country compete. They will dance the waltz, foxtrot, tango, cha cha, rumba and jive for the top Canadian DanceSport titles and the honour to represent Canada in the world championships.
“This weekend is sure to entertain the whole family as well as dance enthusiasts both from the community and from across Canada. The Island Fantasy Ball is well known as a destination event for many people and now, in hosting the 2025 Canadian Closed Championships, it will be our biggest and most wide-reaching event ever held,” noted a news release from the Nanaimo Ballroom Dance Society.
There will be breaks throughout the competitions for social dancing and entertainment by two highly skilled dance couples. The event will also offer a buffet dinner on both evenings with a cash bar.
“You are invited to join us for this exciting weekend filled with the elegant and graceful ballroom dances as well as the sexy, intricate and explosive energy Latin events,” the press release said.
The ballroom dance society has hosted the Island Fantasy Ball for more than 30 years and this year will be the biggest with the inclusion of the DanceSport B.C. 67th Canadian Closed Championship.
