Williams Lake RCMP have made two arrests following an investigation into dangerous driving in the community.
At 4:31 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, RCMP responded to a report of a late 90's burgundy Chevrolet pickup driving at excessive speed on Western Avenue.
Shortly after, police patrols reportedly then identified the vehicle and driver on Mackenzie Avenue driving at speeds of over 100 km per hour.
RCMP reportedly witnessed the driver narrowly avoiding colliding with two vehicles. Due to the high risk to the public, the police did not pursue the vehicle at the time.
At 5 a.m., at an unrelated traffic stop, police again spotted the vehicle on Third Avenue and reported it coming very close to the officer, who retreated to the safety of a police vehicle.
The same vehicle was then spotted again on Mackenzie Avenue and reportedly nearly struck a civilian and later attempted to ram two RCMP vehicles.
RCMP were then called to a vehicle fire on Moon Avenue at 6:18 a.m., where the same vehicle was on fire and the occupants had fled the scene on foot. Police located two suspects on foot and arrested them.
“The driving behavior displayed by the suspect put many lives in harms way. This behavior will not be tolerated and we are thankful no one was injured”, said Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon, with the Williams Lake RCMP.
RCMP have both men in custody at the time and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information or video related to the driver and the vehicle are asked to call Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211.
