100 Mile House RCMP are looking to speak to an elderly woman whose purse was nearly stolen on March 20.
100 Mile House RCMP Sgt. Brian Lamb said officers are investigating the incident which was reported by a witness last week. They told police they observed a male try to take a purse from an elderly female in the 300 block of Birch Avenue at noon on Thursday, March 20. The male was described as Caucasian, approximately 6'3" tall, thin and wearing a black toque.
Lamb said the man left in a black Dodge Ram 1500 single-cab pickup that had damage to the box. RCMP also said the male was not successful in getting the purse.
RCMP attended and made several inquiries in the area, but could not locate the male involved or the female. RCMP said they would like to speak to the female involved in the incident and that no description of the female is available at this time.
This incident was one of 87 calls to service RCMP responded to between March 18-25.
Single vehicle rollover
On March 21 RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 97 near Hickling Road where a vehicle had been located severely damaged.
Lamb said the vehicle was located "severely damaged on its roof near a broken utility pole" by RCMP who attended the scene. It had two occupants inside the vehicle at the time.
RCMP say the driver had to be extracted from the vehicle, with a passenger having escaped the vehicle on their own. The driver was taken to hospital in Williams Lake for undetermined injuries, while the passenger was taken to hospital in 100 Mile House for injuries believed to be minor.
Lamb said RCMP are continuing to investigate and they believe alcohol was a factor in the incident. BC Hydro was also called to assist with the downed pole which knocked out power for several hours.
Impaired driving
The RCMP responded to three instances of impaired driving, one on March 20 and two on March 23.
The March 20 incident saw the RCMP stop a vehicle near Wrangler Way, where the driver was spoken to and suspicion of alcohol consumption was observed. The RCMP conducted a breath test using an approved screening device, leading to a warn. The driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for three days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
On March 23, two vehicles were stopped in separate incidents. The first one had been stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign on Birch Avenue. After the RCMP talked to the driver, suspicions of alcohol consumption were observed.
The RCMP conducted a breath test using an approved screening device - with the result being a fail. The driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
The second vehicle was stopped on suspicion of impaired driving on Dawson Road, where it was observed stopping suddenly on the shoulder and for having no rear license plate attached. The driver was spoken to and a suspicion of alcohol consumption was observed. RCMP conducted a breath test using an approved screening device, with the result being a fail.
