Local Cariboo artist showcases her art in Showcase Gallery

Patsy Granberg's art will be on display throughout April

Patsy Granberg is the new featured artist at the Showcase Gallery in the South Cariboo Business Centre this April.

Six of Granberg's paintings were put up on Tuesday, April 1 where they'll hang until the end of the month. The paintings range from the urban, as depicted in The Sentinel, to the natural, as depicted by Canim Lake Falls, The Road Less Travelled and the rest of the art exhibitions in the gallery. Each painting, except for The Sentinel and Into the Blue, is for sale, with those two being excluded for personal reasons.

"It's painted from my personal experiences and photos, both in the city and locally - I usually paint things that I feel some kind of connection to one way or one reason to another," Granberg said.

She considers herself to still be new to art, despite having painted for the last 18 years, picking up the hobby after she moved to the Cariboo region.

"When I moved here, I hadn't painted at all - and in order to participate with the Cariboo Artist's Guild, I attended workshops and started painting. I feel like I've got my own style, and there's a constancy to my work," Granberg remarked.

Her personal favourite painting was Into the Blue which she says is because of the history of the painting, and the many personal attachments she had to it.

"I really enjoy the broad vista that's depicted. You start at the very front of the painting, but then it goes - it disappears into the distance," Granberg described the painting. "There's lots to see, (like) the changing water from the creek to the lake."

Another painting she felt that was notable enough for her to profile was At the Water's Edge.

"I think that's a painting of two geese, and that was at Scout Island in Williams Lake. And they're both sitting at the water's edge - but their reflection is immediately below them. Their reflection is in the water," Granberg said, describing the inspiration behind her painting.

Granberg said she was pleased to have a chance to show her work.

The show will last in the Showcase Gallery until May.
