Quesnel Art Gallery hosts 'Kidz Art' exhibit

"Arts education nurtures creativity, fosters confidence and encourages perseverance"

The Quesnel Art Gallery kicked off its 'Kidz Art' exhibit Wednesday March 12, featuring work from elementary students across School District 28.

Each year the gallery shows work from schools across the district, this year it was elementary students' turn to shine. The exhibit opened with attendees being given a performance by choir students.

"The arts, whether it's music, visual arts, theatre or dance, they're not just creative outlets. They are essential tools for developing critical thinking, problem solving and emotional intelligence in our young students," said Marguerite Hall from the art gallery. "When children participate in the arts, they're given the opportunity to express themselves, to understand the world from different perspectives and to work collaboratively with others."

Hall said the arts help students in many, many ways both inside and outside of the classroom and the gallery is proud to feature students' work.

The gallery, located at 500 N Star Rd., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The 'Kidz Art' exhibit will be on display from now until April 3. People can also buy made-in Quesnel goods from the gallery's gift shop.

The next exhibit at the gallery will be Everett Wong's 'Dagashi', which will begin April 10.
