Four Green Lake Snowmobile Club members showed up for a trail clearing event on Nov. 11.
It was a cold, windy day and they had several long and deep puddles to take their quads and side-by sides through, but they warmed up when they had to deal with the trees that fell over the trails.
Ron Tonts led the crew, which included Glen Smith, John Sullivan and the writer of this column.
Smith said the trail clearing effort was good with lots of trees moved off the trails. Some boulders were also tossed off the trails
He added the first trail-clearing event was on the trails leading to Jeep Lake and there were a lot more trees to clear off the trails.
This is a legacy of the Elephant Hill wildfire in 2017 which threatened Green Lake communities and fortunately burnt around the lake and away from the lakeside communities. The trees near the trails to Jeep Lake that were burnt are rotting now and a lot of them are falling across the trails and in the nearby forest land.
Folks who go quadding on the local trails before the sledding season starts should bring their chainsaws with them, so they don't have to turn around and have a shortened ride.
Club members would very much appreciate it if quadders would take the time to clear the trails they are riding on and throw the woody debris all the way off the trails.
