UPDATE: Wildfire near Horse Lake now under control

The wildfire is around 35 hectares in size and was first reported on Wednesday, April 16

UPDATE: BC Wildfire has now listed the 34.96 hectare blaze near Horse Lake as under control.

The update came on April 18 at 10:00 a.m. on the BC Wildfire Service website. 

UPDATE: BC Wildfire has listed a 34.96-hectare blaze near Horse Lake as being held.

The fire, originally reported on Wednesday, April 16, is now listed as being held as of Thursday, April 17 at 8:30 a.m. Being held means that the fire is no longer expected to burn beyond its current boundaries based on its current behaviour and weather conditions. In a post on social media, the B.C. Wildfire Service noted that the fire did not grow overnight. 

"BC Hydro will be on-site today, and BC Wildfire Service crews will remain on-site for several days to mop up and patrol the wildfire," B.C. Wildfire said. "Smoke from this wildfire is visible to commuters on Horse Lake Road. Traffic control will be on-site to ensure the safety of the public and firefighters, short delays may occur."

ORIGINAL STORY: BC Wildfire is working to bring an out-of-control wildfire burning near Horse Lake under control. 

The fire was first reported on Wednesday, April 16 and is currently around 2.1 hectares in size. The fire is burning near a field that borders Sven Road and Horse Lake Road. 

BC Wildfire Services lists the wildfire's suspected cause as being human activity. Suppression activities are being undertaken to limit the spread of the wildfire. BC Wildfire has assigned one Initial Attack and a Unit Crew to the wildfire. 

Currently, there are no area restrictions related to this fire.
