The Malaspina Choir will host a spring concert this week promoting peace, love and joy.
Fiona Blackburn will lead the program Saturday, May 2, at St. Andrew's United Church. The evening promises to be full of heartfelt music spanning from the 1600s to today.
“We start with Claudio Monteverdi, Hor che’l ciel e la terra e’l vento tace (Now that heaven, earth and wind are silent). Jesu meine Freude, one of J.S. Bach’s greatest pieces for voice, is the centrepiece of the concert and Mendelssohn’s Verleih uns Frieden (Grant us Peace) ties our theme together,” noted a news release from Malaspina Choir.
The program continues with works by Z. Randall Stroope, Amor de Mi Alma (You Are the Love of My Soul), Timothy Corlis’s A Symbol of Promise, Andrew Balfour’s Ambe (Come In), Aaron Copland’s The Promise of Living and Grant us thy Peace by Geoff Wilcken.
The concert will feature Jenny Vincent on piano and organ, as well as Sharon Sinclair and a guest string quintet.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults, $13.50 for audience members younger than 25 and kids between the ages of seven and 11 get in free. Tickets can be purchased from http:/porttheatre.com or at the door.
