It’s said not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Well, apparently the $69 million in relief for forestry workers announced on Sept. 17 required some looking. Apparently, they took funding from the B.C. Rural Dividend fund, a $25 million provincial fund aimed at helping communities of 25,000 people or less to “strengthen and diversify their local economies.”

According to Crisis Centre BC, roughly 500 people die by suicide per year in B.C. It’s a troubling statistic and just one suicide has a far-reaching ripple effect on a community.

On July 8, news broke that the statue of Judge Matthew Begbie, also the first Chief Justice of the then Crown colony of B.C. in 1858, was removed from the front of the courthouse in New Westminster.

We’re just five months away from the next federal election and there’s a lot to worry about that voters haven’t had on their plate before.

The Bible Belt in the U.S. is currently riding a wave of anti-abortion legislation this year, with Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio and Mississippi passing heartbeat bills (they have not taken effect yet). In many of the states, as soon as a heartbeat can be detected in a fetus it will be illegal for a doctor to perform an abortion. A further 11 states, including New York, are considering pushing their own bill.
