Smackdown 2011 elementary wrestling tournament, held Jan. 29 in Williams Lake with 215 participants, reaffirmed its distinction as being the largest elementary school wrestling tournament in British Columbia.

The 12th annual tournament, sponsored by the Williams Lake Wrestling Club, was held at Columneetza Secondary School.

Local participation came from 100 Mile House Wrestling Club, Horse Lake Elementary School, Mile 108 Elementary and 100 Mile House Elementary and all four clubs made an impression.

Horse Lake sent 20 of its 62 member club and coming home with nine gold medals, five silver and four bronze, attained their best results ever, says coach Pete Leslie.

“Horse Lake’s wrestlers remembered their basics and were not intimidated by performing on the largest wrestling stage in B.C.
