VIDEO: Mt. Timothy finishes winter season with a splash

The Cariboo's ski season went out with some sun, some cloud and a few big splashes

Mt. Timothy Recreation Resort wrapped their ski season with a celebratory splash on March 29.

Saturday was a partly sunny and mostly slushy day, with more people on the deck of the main lodge than visible on the ski hill.

There was one person brave enough to be in a bikini, and a half dozen or so courageous souls tested their snow skis and boards on the water in the Slush Cup competition.

With the goal being to make it across a water-filled pool without going in, it took a few tries before the number of competitors were whittled down to a final run. Each time the approach was shortened to slow down the approach.

In the end, Colton Sanford and Zach Davis were the two left standing, and a quick game of rock-papers-scissors meant Zach Davis had to go first, splashing down on his telemark skis right into the pool.

Sanford followed suit, also ending up in the drink but making him the winner of this year's Slush Cup.

It was a soaking good time for all, as a gathering on the deck at the lodge saw many celebrating the season.

The day did also face some challenges, however, as the chairlift went down at the very end of the day, with the plan for Sunday to run the T-bar lift to finish the season if the chair wasn't fixed. Thanks to some swift teamwork and the fact most skiers and boarders were at the lodge for a prize draw, anyone left on the lift was evacuated efficiently.

A draw for a 10 day pass punch card was held to show customer appreciation as well.

Launna Groves, general manager at the Mt. Timothy Recreation Resort, said it was a great season after the previous season was short on snow and the resort did not open.

As the resort transitions to a year-round destination, Groves said they are planning events throughout the summer and advised people to keep an eye on their website and social media page.
