U16 high performance hockey this weekend

The BC Hockey Female U16 BC Cup gets underway this Thursday at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre with 120 of the province's top under 16 years female players competing.

The opening ceremony is on Friday at 12:30 p.m. with acting Mayor Jeanne Best doing the official tournament puck drop.

The 15-minute ceremony will kick off three days of high-performance hockey, which ends with the gold-medal game at noon on Sunday.

Canlan Ice Sports manager Josh Dickerson says everything has fallen nicely into place as far as planning goes.

"We have a great organizing committee. They've worked hard.
