When the Female U16 BC Cup of hockey comes to 100 Mile House from March 31 to April 3, look for some familiar faces.
Local players, Cassidy Mellott, Adrianna Johnson and Breanna Uphill all made the cut at the North Zone tryouts, held Jan. 2-3 in Mackenzie.
They were among 34 players who showed up for the selection camp, and among the 20 who were chosen for the team.
All three play for the Kamloops Minor Hockey Association Female Bantam AAA Mystixs squad, and they normally travel back and forth for practices and games.
Practice with Team North is a luxury the three players will not have before the big weekend.
Tanya Ney, district co-ordinator for BC Hockey Female Division, says practices for zone teams are not allowed.
“It puts more of a challenge on the coaches to try and unite a team during the four days of the tournament. The girls will have to be able to work as a team and be flexible.”
The U16 BC Cup is being hosted by Canlan Ice Sports at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre.
The North Zone covers an area from 100
Mile House to the
Yukon and will be one of six zone teams involved in the high-profile tournament.
Extra help is still needed in hosting the BC Cup and anyone who is
