Despite moving to Forest Grove from 100 Mile House the 2025 100 Mile Snow Drags proved to be one of the most popular to date.
Leanna Davies, who took over organizing the event from the 100 Mile House Snowmobile Club, said she was blown away by how many participants and spectators came out to 100 Mile Horsepower Ranch to take part on Saturday, March 1. There were so many that the races lasted well into the night.
"It was a really great day. We definitely had a far bigger turnout of competitors than we expected," Davies said. "We had 60 sledders all together and then 17 trucks registered to race for a total of 136 registrations. We were slightly overwhelmed, it was pretty awesome."
The last time the snow drags were held in 2023 at the 100 Mile House Snowmobile Clubhouse, the event attracted 30 sledders. Davies said they've already been able to double that number in their first year.
Davies, who co-owns 100 Mile Horsepower Ranch, took on organizing the event this year from the snowmobile club which had to cancel last year's race due to lack of snow. Before the race, she told the simplymastery that despite the recent warm spell her property still had plenty of snow to hold the races on.
While the snowmobile club was no longer organizing, Davies said both the club and the South Cariboo Track and Trail Dirtbike Association, who helped organize the last snow drags in 2023, helped her run this year's event. The snowmobile club groomed the track for her while Wesley Silverton and Brandon Plewes of South Cariboo Track and Trail lent their organizational expertise.
She noted the snowmobile club also provided her with their timing lights and backing boards. Davies said that in exchange for their help, she has agreed to make a $600 donation to the 100 Mile House Foodbank Society on their behalf.
As for the races themselves, Davies remarked they were fun to watch and she was impressed by the skill and speed of the riders. She noted they had around 300 spectators come out to watch the races with the warm weather allowing them to stay for most of the day.
"Overall, for it being our first time doing this it definitely went really well. There are definitely some growing pains to work through because it's the first event of its kind (for us)," Davies said. "We ended up racing until eight and everything went as smoothly as it could for our first time. I think it was a great success and we're getting a lot of positive feedback from the attendees and spectators. Seems like everyone had really good time."
