Puck passion had a grip on the South Cariboo Rec. Centre last weekend as the 100 Mile Sunrise Ford Peewee Reps hosted a five-team hockey tournament.

100 Mile had to settle for fifth place after four losses and a tie, which came in their opening game with longtime rivals Williams Lake.

The lakecity squad proved to be the eventual winner and the match with 100 Mile was the only game of the tournament they did not win.

Winfield finished in second place as the result of a 5-2 loss to Williams Lake in the final, and Prince George took third after a win over Penticton in the playoffs.

100 Mile team spokesperson Mike Davidson says he's impressed by how much his team has progressed this year.

"They played Tier 2 and 3 at the beginning of the year and were losing by 25 goals. They were not competitive.

"The scores at this tournament show how far they have come along. They tied Williams Lake 3-3 after Williams Lake had beaten them quite handily all season. They proved they can compete at the Peewee Rep level."

Davidson says some work on intensity and on playing hard for a full 60 minutes would benefit the team, but he was very pleased with the way they played on the weekend.
