Nanaimo NightOwls earn series sweep

West Coast League baseball team has more home games this weekend

The Nanaimo NightOwls swept up the competition, and now immediately get ready for more baseball at Serauxmen Stadium.

The Owls swept the Kelowna Falcons this week in West Coast League action at Serauxmen Stadium, winning 9-4, 3-1 and 6-5 on Tuesday through Thursday, July 8-10.

In the first game, Jacob Hayes led the way with a home run and was 2-for-3 on the night with two RBIs. Brock Wirthgen also had two hits and Vincenzo Bruno earned the win on the mound, striking out four batters over 1 2/3 innings.

The next game it was Talan Zenk leading the offence with a pair of doubles, and Tyler Arnold and Andrew Nykoluk also had two hits apiece. Blake Hager was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit over two shutout innings.

The series finale saw Jaedeyn Edwards earn the win on the mound, throwing 3 1/3 innings without giving up a hit or a run, and striking out eight batters. Raoul Fabian Jr. supplied two hits and three runs, while Zenk and Easton Mould each tallied a pair of RBIs.

GAME ON … The NightOwls host the Wenatchee AppleSox from Friday to Sunday, July 11-13, at Serauxmen Stadium. The first two games of the series start at 6:35 p.m. while the finale will be a 1:05 p.m. matinee.
