After almost six months of being in limbo, Little Britches Rodeo organizers in 100 Mile House are thanking members of the South Cariboo Rodeo Association for saving their children's rodeo event.
According to 100 Mile & District Outriders Club president Mike Kidston, a long and frustrating break in communication with the BC Little Britches Rodeo Association (BCLBRA) was holding up registration and sanctioning of their long-running rodeo that is scheduled to take place on the May long weekend, during Western Week.
He blames a major change in executive members at the BCLBRA for the communication breakdown, which also resulted in the 2010 South Cariboo Little Britches Rodeo not being sanctioned.
"The paperwork did not get processed last year and we lost half of our entries because the competitors would not be earning points for the circuit. We believed that if this year, we could not get a sanction, we would not have a rodeo.
"It would have been a shame because it's an important part of Western Week and the grassroots of rodeo in this community."
Kidston thanks Art Young and others from the South Cariboo Rodeo Association for using their personal contacts to get some action.
"We had been looking at four to six months of silence from the Little Britches Association and they were able to find someone who would respond so we can move ahead now.
"We're behind, but we've done it often enough that it can be done. We're just hoping that we can get sponsors to back us as we have in previous years."
