To say the teams playing in the 2011 Novice Score Wars Episode II Attack of the Pucks house hockey tournament in 100 Mile House last weekend were evenly matched would be an understatement.
The tourney involved four local teams and four visiting squads from Merritt, Prince George (two) and Williams Lake.
After round-robin games were completed, the D division Sith Lords group, including the 100 Mile Ainsworth Timber Chix, 100 Mile Central GM Sharp Shooters, Prince George Lions and Merritt Timbit Warriors, were tied with three points apiece so placement for the finals was to be decided on goals-against basis.
Even so, the Timber Chix and Lions were tied, and the decision went to penalty minutes, which left Timber Chix in first place going into the final.
In the end, it was Timber Chix in first place after they defeated the Lions, 6-1 in the D division championship game.
Merritt placed third after beating the Sharp Shooters in the game for third and fourth place.
In the C division Jedi Masters group, Williams Lake Green Goblins beat 100 Mile Primal Electric White Lightning in the final to take first place. The third place spot went to Prince George Red Warriors and 100 Mile Central GM Bruisers was fourth.
"It was a really fun, great weekend," says Karen Gilbert, Novice house division representative and tournament co-ordinator.
"All of the games were really close."
No major awards were handed out for the winning teams, but all tournament participants received a T-shirt.
