The Green Lake Snowmobile Club’s Snowarama Poker Ride went very well with 32 sleds and 35 riders, says organizer Peter McKie.
“We had to shorten the route a little bit to 35 kilometres. Because of the wildfire activity this summer, we had six of our trails closed.”
Riders went on the Dudley Kill trail, the Jim Lake Road trail, Forest Service Road 321, the Macintosh trail and then back on Dudley Kill, according to McKie.
During the ride, there were five checkpoints where riders would pick up a card with the best hand at the end getting a choice of prizes, says McKie. The event was also a fundraiser.
“We raised $2,200 for the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities.”
There were lots of people who dropped by and visited the concessions as well, says McKie.
“We had to postpone it an hour because of the cold. We don’t usually ride below -15 C so we had to wait for the weather to smarten up a bit so the first sled wasn’t out until 11:30 which is an hour later than we usually go.”
The first riders came back after about an hour and a half, according to McKie.
He thanks all the sponsors from 100 Mile House who donated prizes to the event.
