A Coldstream rugby player is getting another opportunity to play for team Canada.

Isaac Olson, a graduate of Clarence Fulton Secondary School in Vernon, is on the roster for the red and white as the squad competes in the four-team La Vila International Rugby Cup.

Hosted in Villajoyosa, Spain, Canada will be playing the host Spainards at El Pantano Stadium to kick it off on Saturday, Nov. 11. USA and Brazil are the other competing teams, with the winners playing each other the following week.

Olson is listed on the initial 43-man roster, which will eventually be whittled down to 32 prior to the competition.

The last time Canada and Olson were in action was against Tonga as the 23-year-old scored both tries in the 36-12 loss.

“Since returning from Fiji and Tonga in August, we have had a number of players training out of the National Training Centre in Langford, with others gaining valuable experience in domestic leagues and abroad in leagues such as New Zealand’s NPC,” said head coach Kingsley Jones.

“This week we are holding integrated training sessions with several West Coast-based players and the Pacific Pride Academy, a great collaborative and competitive opportunity for players as we near our departure to Villajoyosa. Our players are hungry to return to international competition and eagerly await our Nov. 11 meeting with Spain.”

Along with the national team, Olson is also competing for the New England Free Jacks in Major League Rugby.

A total of 12 players from B.C. have been named to the roster.
