A South Surrey hockey player — and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect — has been named the Western Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Sunday (Jan. 26), the second week in a row he has earned the honour.
Medicine Hat Tigers netminder Harrison Meneghin has earned the top title in back-to-back weeks, in addition to a WHL Goaltender of the Week win in October, a recent WHL release noted.
The National Hockey League prospect and former Delta Hockey Academy player went 2-0-0-0 on the week with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage to kick off a U.S. Division road trip. The 6-foot-4, 174-pound goalie has won his last five appearances and is 11-8-0-0 on the season with a 2.49 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage and two shutouts.
Currently, Meneghin sits second among all qualified goaltenders in goals-against average, ninth in save percentage and is tied for second in shutouts. A 2024 WHL Goaltender of the Year nominee, he has hit major career milestones this season with a 57-40-7-2 record, a 2.68 goals-against average and six shutouts while surpassing 100 games played and closing in on 3,000 saves, said the release.
He was also named a WHL Central Division Second Team All-Star in 2023 and a First Team All-Star in 2024.
Tampa Bay Lightning selected Meneghin in the seventh round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
