Track and field athletes from 100 Mile House Junior Secondary and Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School (PSO) travelled to Prince George last week to compete at the North Central District meet.

It took place at Masich Place Stadium in Prince George on May 19-20, with close to 200 participants.

Tracy Moore, who coaches the 100 Mile team along with David Henderson and Lori Meville, says it was a great meet for all of the athletes.

"The competition was fierce and all of the athletes performed well."

Kim Rotluff, from 100 Mile Junior, competed in the juvenile girls division and saw some outstanding results, taking a couple of gold medals in the 400-metre and 800-m runs, silver in triple jump and fourth in long jump.

A pair of silver medals in high jump and the 200-m went to bantam level competitor, Cassidy Mellott. She also placed fifth in long jump and sixth in triple jump.

Montana Erikson, bantam, placed fourth in the 1500-m and fifth in the 800-m.

Alexandra Wolfe, bantam, placed fourth in long jump and in the 200-m, along with eighth in the 800-m and ninth in the 100-m.

Taylor McEwan, also on the bantam team, won a silver medal in the 300-m run, placed sixth in the 200-m, ninth in the 800-m and 14th in the 100-m.

Athletes from PSO had equally good results, with junior competitors Jason Ruschensky and Brady Smith finishing near the top.

Ruschensky won bronze in discus and fifth in javelin while Smith took fourth place in javelin and fifth spot in both high jump and long jump.

Overall team results saw the 100 Mile Junior juvenile girls get the bronze medal and the school's bantam girls finish fourth. The PSO junior boys' team took fifth place overall in their division.

None of the athletes qualified to compete at the BC Provincial High School Championships, which take place on June 3-4 in Burnaby.

The North Central Zone takes in communities from 100 Mile House to Fort St. James and from Burns Lake to McBride.
