The 100 Mile House Curling Club will be hosting another big event, as the Men’s Bonspiel will run from Jan. 17-19.

It will be a special time for the club, as it has been running the tournament for 60 years now.

“We will have as much of the men’s bonspiel history out on display as we can gather. This will include trophies, photo books, and bonspiel records. In addition, as a tribute to 60 years, we are starting a history section on our website. This is a work in progress and we try to add things every day or every other day,” said Maria Hamilton, the club’s treasurer.

The history section will include team names, where the respective players on the team were from, and what year(s) they competed in. The club is also trying to find photos and newspaper clippings for the project. The online archive won’t just stop with the men’s bonspiel. The club will look at starting on the women’s bonspiel when the men’s section is complete.

According to Hamilton, 13 teams are registered to play so far.

“The other thing that I am noticing, is the young people who are entering the bonspiel. We have quite a few juniors (under 21) who are combining with our ‘older’ curlers to make a team. And our brand new mixed team has been able to muster up a men’s team to put into the bonspiel. It should be very entertaining,” said Hamilton.

The tournament as always will be separated into A, B, C events where each winner will win a team jacket.

The bonspiel will start on Friday and there will be appetizers and other food for players and spectators.

Dinner will also be served on Saturday night, with games and music after the games.

Semi-finals and the final will be played on Sunday.
