100 Mile Elementary wins Grade 7 boys basketball tournament

South Cariboo Elementary Schools came together on Thursday, March 13 to play a basketball tournament

South Cariboo Elementary Schools came together on Thursday, March 13 for a Grades 6/7 boys basketball tournament.

100 Mile Elementary School, Horse Lake Elementary School and host Mile 108 Elementary School all fielded teams, with Mile 108 including a few players from Lac La Hache Elementary School. After several friendly but competitive games, the 100 Mile Elementary School team came out on top beating out Horse Lake Elementary School.

"It was a well-disputed tournament, the team had to be on every ball, and every action till the very last second," Tristan Fesissli, the 100 Mile Elementary coach, said.

During the final Feissli's team faced off against Horse Lake Elementary's team, led by Lisa Pugh. Pugh said she has been working with the team this year alongside her coworker Mrs. Rehbein, describing the team as 'small in number but mighty in heart'. She noted that at this level of play, the game is all about skill development for her players and promoting love of the game.

This year Pugh said she had two veteran Grade 7 players Ronan Gill and Jack Roche who won the tournament last year as Grade 6s. She noted that both players were leaders of the team this year, leading by example and motivating the team to put in the best performance possible.

"Congratulations to all the players who came out to sweat it out on the courts," Pugh remarked.

Feissli, meanwhile, was proud his team was able to overcome Horse Lake Elementary School, noting that last year they came in second when Horse Lake won. He said they all worked incredibly hard to pull off the victory.

"It was very rewarding for the boys as last year the same team with the same players lost to Horse Lake," Feissli said. "Now, one year later, they evolved their teamwork and skills, and it paid off."
